Position Overview: We are seeking a dynamic Nurse Manager to lead our Labor and Delivery/Obstetrics unit. This role reports directly to the Director of OB Services and oversees approximately 60 full-time employees, supporting around 1,300 deliveries annually. The unit includes 10 LDRP rooms, 8 postpartum rooms, and 8 additional postpartum overflow rooms if needed, along with a Level II Special Care Nursery. The ideal candidate will manage both clinical and administrative operations, ensuring the highest standards of care and patient experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize and manage the day-to-day operations of the Labor and Delivery/Obstetrics unit, including staff management, resource allocation, and delivery of patient care.
  • Lead a multidisciplinary team, fostering collaboration and maintaining high standards of patient care and safety.
  • Balance managerial duties (80%) with clinical responsibilities (20%), adjusting based on unit needs.
  • Provide guidance and oversight in line with the facility’s mission and values, contributing to continuous quality improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards and uphold pathways to excellence in clinical care.

Education and Experience:

  • Education: BSN required; MSN preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of one year in an acute inpatient setting and three years in specialty units related to OB/Labor and Delivery.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Active and valid RN license in Virginia or a compact state.
  • Required certifications include BLS; ACLS/PALS as needed based on unit requirements.
  • Commitment to ongoing education and meeting unit-specific competencies.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain composure and make informed decisions under pressure.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and accreditation requirements, standards of practice, and state nurse practice acts.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive clinical excellence and implement strategic plans within the department.
