May 6th-12th is National Nurses Week!!!

Have you noticed that each year National Nurses Week ends on May 12th?  It’s not just a coincidence; the date marks the birthday of the first modern day nurse, Florence Nightingale, and has also been designated International Nurses Day.

Want to know how your organization can celebrate?  Nursing World offers some suggestions on ways to bring recognition to these unsung heroes of the healthcare profession, and we’ve picked out a few of our favorites:

Get political

Invite a politician to follow one or more nurses around during a typical day on the job.  Invite the media to join in and bring attention to what nurses have to cover during the course of a day.  Use the coverage to bring attention to needed healthcare legislation.

Throw a party

Hold a special reception honoring nurses in your community for their heroic acts, commitment, and tenure in the field.

Meet the press

Write and distribute a press release announcing International Nurses Day.  Suggest that your local newspaper solicit people for stories about exemplary care they received from a nurse in the community.

A little self-promotion never hurts

Share your organization’s promotional nursing material with local schools and libraries.

All of us here at the Merraine Group salute the 3.1 million RNs in America, particularly those we have worked with over the years, both whom we have placed and those whom we have assisted in finding outstanding candidates!
